Since the Student Body Meetings began in IEEE GRIET SB, the event has always achieved its goal of creating a platform for interaction to its members. Continuing the culture, the first SBM of the new term was conducted on 11th February, 2015 from 1:30p.m to 4:00p.m. Though the session constituted of a competition among the member teams, the chief focus
was to develop team skills and creative thinking among the members. The session began with Prabhath Kollimarla, Chairman of IEEE GRIET SB, addressing to the audience. He briefly discussed the IEEE’s structure across the globe, the achievements and
awards of the Student Branch and the benefits the student members gained from IEEE. This was followed by a Tushar Karumudi, ex-ExeCom Member talking to the attendees. Then, the Executive Committee of the new term introduced themselves to the members.K Chaithanya Pramodh, Vice Chairman of IEEE GRIET SB instructed the members divided into teams of five to ten, the task for the competition. The task was to “Create a Maze and a Bristle Bot”. The maze was to satisfy certain conditions (about dimensions, complexity and uniqueness) and the Bristle Bot was a very simple and tiny bot whose random motion was monitored by a mobile vibrator and steered by the bristles of a tooth brush. The ten teams were each being guided by an ExeCom member to ensure balanced participation by the team members. The whole event was being live telecasted on the screens of the Seminar Hall. The task was well executed by the teams and the feedback received regarding the event was also quite encouraging to the organisers. The session ended with a brief talk on skills an engineer should possess and the importance of such skills in developing an elevating career by Dr. Y Vijayalata, Branch Counsellor of IEEE GRIET SB.The judgement of the task, which was based on the complexity, uniqueness and dexterity exhibited in making the maze, was taken up by Tushar Karumudi, B Abhinay and N Sai Aditya, the ex-ExeCom members of the Student Branch. The winners were termed the “IEEEians of the Month” and congratulated.
